What We Offer:

Embark on a journey towards mental wellness with MWSP, where you're entitled to five (5) complimentary mental health therapy sessions. These sessions are a haven for transformation, led by licensed, culturally competent clinicians from our esteemed network. Your healing is our priority, and that's why MWSP is completely free for registered participants.

Remember to submit a survey after each session.

Community Partnerships:

This year, the Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation has joined forces with multiple organizations to weave a stronger fabric of mental wellness in our community. When you apply, you can choose the program that resonates with you and even indicate the referring partner that led you to us.

In response to the unique challenges the Prince George's County community faces during these unprecedented times, BLHF recognizes the critical need for mental health services. The Prince George's County Schools Mental Health Partnership, was developed to cover the cost of therapy services by licensed clinicians in our network for up to five (5) sessions. This short-term opportunity will assist those in the Prince George's County School District.

Your Path to Healing:

Enrollment is a breeze – simply sign up during designated open enrollment periods. Spaces are filled on a first-come, first-serve basis, so seize this opportunity to embark on your healing journey with us.

Exploring Beyond MWSP:

While MWSP is a beacon of support, we understand that your needs might extend beyond our program. That's why we encourage you to delve into the Let’s Talk! Resource Guide. It's a treasure trove of valuable information. You can also explore service providers in your vicinity and directly connect with them if their offerings align with your requirements.

At BLHF, we're not just offering a program – we're extending a lifeline towards mental wellness. Join us in this transformative journey because you deserve a life of wellbeing, resilience, and hope.

Who is the Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation?

The Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation is a nonprofit organization founded in 2018 by Taraji P. Henson and led by Executive Director, Tracie Jade Jenkins. The foundation is named in honor of Ms. Henson’s father, Boris Lawrence Henson, who suffered from mental health challenges as a result of his tour of duty in the Vietnam War.

What does the Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation do?

We are committed to changing the perception of mental illness in the African American community by encouraging those who suffer from this debilitating illness to get the help they need. Through our partnerships, the foundation will ensure cultural competence in caring for African Americans who struggle with mental illness by providing scholarships to African-American students who seek a career in the mental health field; offering free mental health services to adults; offering free mental health programs to young people in urban schools; and combat recidivism within the prison system.

Who does the Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation serve?

We partner with other nonprofit organizations that offer programs that educate, celebrate, and make visible the positive impact of mental health wellness in the African American community.

Who is eligible to receive mental health and wellness services?

All youth and adults, starting at age 12, regardless of their health insurance status.

How do I enroll to seek treatment? Is there an application process?

Once a program opens, the registration link or details for the sponsored groups are listed on BLHF’s website. Those interested in registering must use the link to access the application.  You will be required to answer a few questions and select a provider in your state to provide services per a drop-down menu for your selection. The BLHF Program staff will connect you with the selected provider to begin your services.

How many sessions will I receive?

Each participant will receive five (5) individual sessions.

What happens when I’ve completed my sessions and want to continue treatment?

Participants can talk with their therapists about how to continue with paid sessions covered by insurance or through another arrangement. The specifics of this are up to the therapist and participant.

How can I support the program without enrolling in treatment?
